At OIWW, hygiene is our priority. Here’s how we maintain the cleanliness of our simultaneous translation equipment:

  • Daily cleaning routine: All our headsets and receivers are meticulously cleaned and disinfected after each use.

  • Disinfection of receivers: Each receiver is thoroughly wiped with special cleaning and disinfecting wipes that eliminate 99.99% of fungi, bacteria, and viruses.

  • Sterilization of headsets: Our headsets undergo an even more rigorous cleaning and disinfection process, which is described in detail below:

Disinfection process for reusable headphones

 

Collection and segregation:

  • After use, the headphones are collected and separated from other items for a rigorous cleaning procedure.

 

Pre-cleaning:

  • The headphones are wiped with a dry cloth or brush to remove visible dirt.

 

Disinfection:

 

Double sterilization method:

  1. Step 1: Specialized wipes (benzalkonium chloride) that eliminate 99.99% of microorganisms.
  2. Step 2: Spray disinfection.
  3. Step 3: UV light exposure for final sterilization.

 

Drying:

  • After disinfection, the headphones must be completely dry to prevent moisture retention, which could promote bacterial growth or damage the electronics.

 

Inspection:

  • Each headphone is checked for damage or wear that could affect hygiene or sound quality.

 

Storage:

  • Cleaned and disinfected headphones are then stored in clean, dry, sealed bags to maintain sterility until the next use.

 

Ready for use:

After disinfection, each headphone is packed in a sealed, single-use plastic bag. The participant removes it themselves, having 100% confidence that the equipment is sterile.
